Ho Chi Minh City (pop. 9 million) is Vietnam’s financial center and largest metropolis. Formerly known as Prey Nokor and Saigon, the city was South Vietnam’s capital from 1955-1975 and the capital of France’s overseas territory of Chochin-china. HCMC’s skyline is shaped by Ho Chi Minh City Hall, Saigon Notre-Dame Basilica, and Ben Than Market.

Hanoi (pop. 6.4 million) is the Socialist Republic of Vietnam’s capital and second largest city. Hanoi was also the region’s political center from 1010-1802, the capital of French Indochina from 1802-1954, and the base for the communist regime of North Vietnam from 1954-1976. Hanoi is an ancient city characterized by Turtle Tower, Hoa Kiem Lake, Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and One Pillar Pagoda.
