Phnom Penh

Trey Archer Published in Cambodia on Wednesday, 31 August 2011 03:40

Phnom Penh (pop. 2.5 million) is the capital and largest city of Cambodia. The city located on the banks of the Mekong River used to be known as the “Pearl of Asia” due to its magnificent French influenced architecture. However, that quickly changed once the brutal Khmer Rouge took control of the country in 1975. Luckily Phnom Penh has recovered and is now recognized by places like Wat Phnom, Central Market and Royal Palace.
