Vientiane (pop. 750,000) is the capital and largest city of Laos. Despite being a small town in a country that just began opening up to the outside world, Vientiane has some pretty popular sights like Patuxai, Pha That Luang and various Buddhist temples/monasteries.
Vang Vieng (pop. 25,000) is a touristy town located in northern Laos, about 5 hours from the capital. Vang Vieng is famous around the backpacking community for one thing- tubing.
Si Phan Don is an archipelago in the Mekong River situated in the most southern tip of Laos near the Cambodian border. It’s a very popular backpacker destination due to its incredible natural beauty and river dolphins.
