Santiago (pop. 7.2 million) is Chile’s capital, financial center and home to nearly half of the country’s total population. The city situated between the Andes Mountains and the Pacific Ocean is one of Latin America’s most modern and fastest growing urban areas. Santiago is known for world class wine, Piscola and the Titanium Tower (the tallest building in Latin America).

XTS Rating: 7- Santiago is one of the only cities in the world where one can go skiing in the mountains during the morning and sun bathing on the beach in the afternoon. Both are an hour’s drive away from the city’s center. It’s also a tranquil, clean and natural place with many parks and hills for recreational use. Those who like the outdoors and bohemian craft markets will easily fall in love with Chile’s capital.

If the great outdoors ain’t your thing, then you may not be too fond of the metropolis. Some think it’s tucked away in the southern corner of the continent where not much occurs. Furthermore, the night life feels like the Pinochet 9pm curfew still exists and it can be pricy.
