Sao Paulo

Sao Paulo (pop. 20 million), or Sampa for short, is Brazil and South America’s financial center. It’s also one of the biggest cities in the world and a true concrete jungle. The megalopolis is defined by the Sao Paulo Cathedral, the Altino Arantes skyscraper, Paulista Avenue and an endless stretch of high rises that stretch as far as the eye can see.

XTS Rating: 6.5- It’s hard to describe in words how big Sao Paulo actually is. The city never sleeps (probably because it’s wired on insanely strong coffee); so there’s always something to do even in the wee hours of morning. The sheer size of Sao Paulo has not only attracted people from all over the nation, but from abroad as well. There’s a load of Spanish, Portuguese, Latino, Indigenous, Arab and even Japanese cultures present. In fact, SP has the largest colony of Japanese outside of Japan! It’s an interesting place to explore the cultures of the Brazil and the world, and the beach is only an hour’s drive away.

On the flip side, Sampa is crowded, polluted, a little expensive, nearly impossible to get around and quite dangerous. But when it’s said in done, and you need a break from all the bad things you’ve done in Rio, Sao Paulo ain’t that bad and worth checking out.
