Caracas

Caracas (pop. 5 million) is Venezuela’s capital and largest city. The metropolitan area is wedged between the Caribbean Coast to the north and Andes Mountains to the south. Caracas is most noted for Simon Bolivar, France Square and the Plaza Venezuela which has the infamous Nescafe and Pepsi icons over two skyscrapers.

XTS Rating: 3- There’s nothing good about Caracas. It’s considered one of the most dangerous cities in the world, grocery stores often lack basic goods due to government price controls, gas is the price of bottled water which means everyone and their mama contributes to the hellish traffic, and there’s just not much to see or do. Period.

Believe it or not, there are a few factors that keep the city’s rating above zero. Rum is as cheap as gasoline, the music is phenomenal, the beaches are close and the women stunning (this fact is validated since Venezuela is the number one holder of Miss Universe gold medals). You can watch Hugo Chavez’s television show “Alo Presidente” every Sunday for a good laugh.
