Guadalajara (pop. 4.3 million) is the country’s second biggest city and a hot spot for traditional Mexican culture, food, music and arts. Guadalajara is also the nation’s leader in information technology, earning it the nickname “The Silicon Valley of Mexico.” The city is known for the CD Chivas, Guadalajara Cathedral, Mariachis and Agave cultivation to produce Tequila.

XTS Rating: 9.5- Guadalajara is one of the planet’s best kept secrets. It’s considered the most traditional city of the country since it’s the tequila capital, origin of long established Mexican dishes, birthplace of the Mariachi and home to an infinite amount of famous hot sauce brands. The Tepatio (native of Guadalajara) is easy going and follows the customs of the past religiously, especially the siesta (a nap after a glutinous family lunch in the middle of the work day). Tepatias (women natives of Guadalajara) are also considered the most beautiful in all of Mexico.

The only con about this spectacular city is the local transportation is as efficient as the siesta. You also may not be too fond of the area if you’re a fan of Club America Football team and get annoyed with the constant singing of Mariachis while enjoying your torta ahogada and michilada.
