XTS Rating: 7- There’s no place like Havana- it’s tropical, socialist, relaxed and the home of some of the world’s best music, rum and cigars. What’s not to like? The people are also super friendly and downtown Havana still has its classic Spanish architecture intact (more or less) from a 100 years ago.
Havana would be perfect if it weren’t for the astronomically high prices. Cuba has two currencies, one for foreigners and one for locals. The foreigner money exchange rate is unfavorable; making Cuba’s capital much more expensive than it should be. Try getting your hands on some local cash, but that’s easier said than done and illegal. Apart from the currency dilemma, the city apparently sticks to its socialist philosophy with souvenirs stands of Castro and Che Guevara on every corner; inundating downtown with tacky, touristy memorabilia.
