Tokyo

Tokyo (35.5 million) is the capital, cultural and financial center of Japan. Adding to its list of accomplishments, the Eastern Capital is the planet’s most populated megalopolis, considered one of the world’s most livable megacities and an international powerhouse in banking/international finance. Tokyo’s enormous, modern skyline is outlined with Nishi-Shinjuku, Tokyo Tower and the National Diet Building.

XTS Rating: 5- If you enjoy fine dining at 5 star Michelin restaurants and shopping for the latest designer trends, then Tokyo (and obviously not this website) is the place for you… that is if you can afford it. Tokyo is so expensive it makes one want to eat a platter of fugu prepared by a toddler. Unless you have a friend’s couch to crash on and a local to show you the cheap joints, Tokyo may be a little disappointing.

Tokyo’s cost of living is its biggest downfall. But, not all hope is lost. Try staying in the outskirts of the city for lower prices. There’s more culture there anyway and you can count on the extremely efficient subway to get you from point A to B. Plus, the food is incredible all throughout Japan’s capital. Hang out at some local street vendors with some Asahi and a bottle of sake and you’ll be shouting kampai with your new Japanese friends in no time.
