The campaign began in 2007 when 440 international destinations were nominated by individuals via the Internet. Next, a panel of "expert judges" (apparently there are experts in the field of choosing the 7 Natural Wonders of the World) cut 77 from the pool of contenders. After careful examination and debate, the panel further sliced and diced the number down to 28. On July 21st, 2009, the 2 year voting procedure began, allowing voters from around the planet to voice their choice for the planet's most spectacular natural sceneries. Voting officially ended November 11, 2011 (or colloquially referred to 11-11-11).
Though the 7 places have been announced by the N7W committee, there will still be several recounts during the next week or so to confirm the count. So, technically, there could be a recall or even change in the list. For more information concerning the New 7 Wonders, check out their website at www.new7wonders.com.
