Cuzco (pop. 350,000) was the former capital of the great Inca Empire. It’s also an international tourist destination and the best place to stay when visiting Machu Pichu. The city has numerous hotels, hostels, restaurants, souvenir stands and tour companies all circled around the Plaza de Armas in the town’s center.

Lima (pop. 8.5 million) is Peru’s primer urban center in terms of politics, economics and culture. The City of Kings is full of indigenous and European history/architecture since it was once the Spanish Empire’s most important New World posts. The city is home to the Historic City Center and numerous museums and galleries of the regions rich past.
