At least 14 people are dead and 20+ more were wounded after an explosion tore through a crowded café in the Moroccan city of Marrakech on Thursday. According to Moroccan officials the blast took place a few minutes before noon in Djemma el-Fna square, one of the top attractions in a country that depends heavily on tourism.
An unconfirmed report states that of the 14 immediately killed 11 were foreigners, marking the country’s deadliest attack in eight years and a somber start to the Moroccan tourist season. At this time Moroccan officials aren’t releasing the nationalities of the foreigners killed, but French President Nicolas Sarkozy has confirmed that the victims included French nationals.
