So, we’re not exactly a book review kinda site, but occasionally you come across a book that demands you try and spread the word- this is one such book, partially for it’s clever style, partially for the message it sends and partially because pirates are bad ass! While I in no way condone these acts, it was interesting to get a firsthand account of what precipitated modern piracy. Bahadur lived amongst the pirates and was eventually trusted enough to gain access to their inner workings (aided in large part by his offerings of khat, a plant flown into Somalia by the ton every day from Kenya and Ethiopia and chewed for an addictive high). Nearly as interesting was Bahadur’s reasoning as to why he wrote the book.
